Round up

1. Spring will begin at eight o'clock tonight (Eastern time), they say. Even though it's completely white outside, and cold, it does feel like winter is winding down. Hallelujah!

2. I'm sad that CBC Radio 3's Saturday night show is over. When Grant Lawrence signed off, I may have said "Nooooooo!" to my radio. (You may recall last spring's incident of winning the hoodie.)

3. I've started to read The Friday Night Knitting Club, but I'm also getting to that point in the semester when novel-reading time vanishes, replaced by paper-writing time. I know this not only because of my elevated stress level, but because at the end of yesterday's class no one even suggested going to the pub. We all just filed out of the room, glassy-eyed, mumbling about going home to work on our papers.

4. Bill and I went to see Zodiac on the weekend. I liked it, but I thought it was needlessly long. Amazing (and huge) cast. I also watched The Education of Shelby Knox (on DVD), which was excellent.

5. Oh, my heavens, have you seen Cookie A's new site and its stunning sock designs? The German Stocking? Now that's some sock knitting. I'd better not start any complex socks until the end of the school term, though.

6. I can't remember who blogged about Google Notebook, but thanks! Much better than just bookmarking web pages.

7. My crocheted blanket is big now, so I only work on it when I'm on the couch. What to do when I'm sitting at my desk, working, and need a little reward? Well, start a tiny crocheted blanket for Mooky, of course! It's actually geared more towards keeping my reading chair cat-hair-free than giving Mooky a blanket of his own, although I do think he'll like sleeping on it. But he loves to sleep on my red corduroy chair (at least, he looks pretty happy about it). Instead of continuing to cover the chair cushion in various photocopied journal articles and other pieces of paper that are within reach, I'm crocheting a ripple "blanket" the size of the seat. And I've been doing lots of, um, rewarding work, so it's almost done. (Next post: crocheted seat-cover cat blanket! Sexy, sexy, sexy.)

It's all about the rewards, baby! ;)

I bought 3 or 4 of Cookie's new patterns... I was completely helpless!

her new patterns are amazing - i'm holding off until I can get control of the socks I have! :)

great idea for a mini ripple blanket!!! I'm sure mookie will love his own little one!

Shelby Knox was one of our movies in our Teen Movies class this semester -- I love how she's so inspiring and annoyingly frustrating at the same time. And yeah, Zodiac is long, but that's more face time with Mark Ruffalo which is a-okay with me.

crocheted cat seat cover. Brilliant!

I liked Shelby Knox, too. I have a moratorium on serial killer movies, so I am taking a pass on Zodiac. I am excited to see the ripple blanket.

I always hate the part while knitting or crocheting a blanket project where you have to leave it at home. I've spent plenty of hours in public with a too-large projects crammed into ginormous bags- it's so hard to let go!

Thanks for the pointer about Google Notebooks. It looks cool, although I'll have to switch to Firefox to use it...

Have you tried del.icio.us? I am completely addicted to that. It may be kinda like google notebook, I am not sure.

Cookie's new designs have me searching my stash frantically for some solid sock yarn. So pretty.

Happy spring! (please hurry!)

Radio 3 is still around; it is just not piggybacked on to CBC Radio 2. CBC Radio 3 is available 24/7 on channel 94 of Sirius satellite radio or you can listen the Net. …however you know that I‘m sure.

Living in a house with 3 cats, and being a crocheter before a knitter, I know this to be a fact, cats love having their own crocheted blankets.

Ooh, thanks for the link to Cookie A's sock site. I was so encouraged that she had socks in SIZES, thank you very much! The emerald green pair, twisted flower, I think, is to die for!

I heard a rumor some time ago that Julia Roberts is doing a movie called Friday Night Knitting...didn't know it started as a book.

Try the Knitting Circle by Ann Hood. Great book

Spring has officially arrived here, and the trees are valiantly blooming, but the rain, oh the rain! Seriously, even the ducks are complaining...

I too am having problems adjusting to the new CBC schedule - my evening just isn't the same without After Hours, and it's affecting my knitting. I may have to revert to CDs for my jazz fix. Thankfully they didn't go after Jurgen Gothe's DiscDrive or the meowfia would've gone on strike...

Lastly, I was suffering from knitting ennui - now, not so much. All those socks look so intriguing!

I bought Cookie's German stocking KIT at Stitches. She's cute as a button, to boot. Get it? Boot?
