Madli Progress Report #1

I've knit about three-quarters of the border of my shawl, and I'm wondering if I should be using a smaller needle:



I've never made something like this before, and I'm not sure how "open" I want the lace to be. I don't care whether my shawl is the same size as the one in the pattern -- I just want the lace to look nice. I'm using different, slightly thicker, yarn (Inca Gold Baby Alpaca: 50g=200m) and a 4.0mm needle. Maybe it just seems super-flimsy to me because I'm not used to it. I'm going to keep knitting for a while. If I still feel it's too loose, well, I certainly won't be the first to rip out a lace project.
