FOs: socks and mittens
Hello! I thought I'd pop in to show you a couple of recently finished objects, so I don't forget altogether. First up, finished yesterday, is a pair of Little Child's Socks (from Nancy Bush's Knitting Vintage Socks):
I love them. The yarn is vintage Lady Galt Kroy 4-ply (four 1-oz. balls). I made just a couple of small modifications to the pattern: I did 5 extra rounds of stockinette between the cuff and the start of the instep pattern, and then 8 extra rounds between the last calf decrease and the heel; also, I knit the foot on 60 stitches instead of 56, so I had to decrease 4 stitches before starting the toe. If I were to knit these socks again, I would do two things differently: I would work the heel flap on 30 stitches (why decrease to 26?), and I would do an extra round of decreases just before pulling the toe stitches together (to 8 stitches instead of 16). But it's a great pattern, and I love the socks. 
And second, I finished my alpaca Druid Mittens a couple of weeks ago, and they're also a success -- great pattern, great mittens: 
I wish I'd added half an inch or so to the length of the hand, but they're totally wearable. I love the Zimmermannian saddle across the top -- no suprise, coming from designer (and EZ devotee) Jared Flood. This yarn is label-less alpaca, bought at Birkeland Bros. in Vancouver -- I was told it came from Golden Fleece Alpacas in Mission, B.C. The softness of the yarn obscures the lovely cables a little bit, but that's OK. My favourite part of the mitten is actually the palm -- weird, right?
OK, back to work! I have a couple of big nose-to-the-grindstone weeks ahead of me. See you after they're done.

Mmm! Those mittens are so enticing!! I think the fuzziness of the alpaca is perfect, you can still see all the detail.
Looks like you're nice and set for a chilly fall day! I love the alpaca fuzziness of the mitts -- I bet they're nice and toasty.

Wow, those socks are just gorgeous. I am chastened by the thought that should I ever get around to knitting socks, they are highly unlikely to ever look that good. Beautiful mittens, too. Great work!

I love the toe on those socks! I've never seen that specific one. Is it written in the pattern that way?
