Of dishes and yarn

Out running errands this afternoon, I just happened to find myself in a Frip-Prix thrift store (that name makes sense in French), where I found two excellent things:

1. Several nice plates -- that vitrified hotelware I'd mentioned recently; two dinner plates at 99 cents each, and three side plates for 49 cents each.

2. Three and a half balls of Pingouin Typhon, a chunky wool-mohair-acrylic blend, for 99 cents total. It's about 175 yards, and I'm thinking mittens.

(Our back porch is being resurfaced, and the concrete looks cool right now.)

I'm off to Toronto in the morning, where I'll be spending the rest of the week in the archives. Then on Sunday Bill and I are going to Hamilton for a few days. I'm not taking my laptop. I may or may not blog while I'm away, so don't be concerned if I don't. I've packed a ball of alpaca laceweight and a shawl pattern, so we'll see whether I get to that. Have a great week, and I'll be back soon.

I've been slowly building a complete set of china out of odds and ends pieces of really nice, beautiful china like these pieces and it really is beautiful. It sets such an elegant table. You would think it would be more funky but beautiful china is beautiful china.

I love it because then I can dress the table any way I want and it pretty much matches no matter what!

What a haul! You really have a knack of finding great things...and a better quality of thrift shops than I have locally, I think.

Thanks for the shawl link. That should be lovely.

I love to potter through thrift stores - I occasionally find sock yarn and have once found a sweaters worth of superwash wool - mostly acrylic and fun fur, etc unfortunately - makes the good finds more special! Enjoy your trip to Toronto and Hamilton (though might I ask why Hamilton - I live in Hamilton and most don't think it is visit worthy!

I love a good deal!

I am incredibly, ridiculously envious of your new pink, polka-dotted dishes. You have no idea.

Cupcakes would look yummy on those lovely plates.

Are you free Friday night? It's Drunken Knitters (knit night at a pub), for the second time this month - and I think it's going to be a nice big one! It's at the Spotted Dick at Yonge and Bloor, from about 6pm onwards!

I'd love to see you there!

I really love your taste in, well, everything. I've been thinking of starting a collection of awesome china and dinnerware pieces, but until I saw these dishes I just wasn't sure. Thanks for all of your inspiration!

Can you knit me a bat-wing shawl out of that yarn, Ronnie? Tis freezing here and my pocket-ear-muffs just aren't doing the trick! XX. Remington. S.
