FO: Narragansett Bay Socks

My first pair of socks in quite a while. This pattern is from the book A Fine Fleece by Lisa Lloyd. I really like the knit-and-purl gansey-style pattern; it's a nice change from the usual ribbing / lace / cables of most sock patterns, and it takes a little bit of paying attention but not too much (i.e., good knitting for watching hockey playoffs). I used two balls of Sisu sock yarn (colour 9544) and a 2.25mm circular needle (my usual).

Thanks so much for all your congrats and sympathy on that last post! I'm healing fine, just a few scabs and bruises, but most importantly, there is no longer a risk of contaminating my yarn. First order of business was to finish knitting a lace scarf, which I will block today and show you soon, and then I got started on my crocheted Butterscotch Cardigan! I'm using LL Shepherd Sock in charcoal, which is the weirdest colour: in natural light it looks like dark brown, and then at night with a lamp on it looks like dark grey. I'll show you that progress soon, too.

A few of you asked what's next for me at school. I still have to defend my comps, in a couple of weeks, and then it's on to a couple of conference papers and my thesis proposal. Something very exciting is that I'm going to B.C. for a few weeks in June! I'm still figuring out the exact dates, but I'll be in Vancouver sometime between June 7 and 14. So I don't have the summer "off" by any means, but I'm looking forward to the work I'm going to be doing, and there won't be the kind of pressure there's been over the last few months.

Have a great weekend!

Ooh! I can't wait to see your butterscotch cardigan! I picked up a copy of the Stitch & Bitch crochet book and am working my way through chaining (got that part down) and single crochet (not quite there yet...) in preparation of this sweater!

i'm so happy you got your comps out of the way. you should come to vancouver a few days earlier. not only will i actually be in town, but it's the humanities congress and there's tonnes of conferences and richard florida (he does research on the creative class!!) will be presenting somewhere in there. yay for new knitted socks. i'm in awe of your collection.

What handsome socks, Alison! I love the textural showcase of solid-coloured yarn.

Nice socks! And Wow that book must be something hot because everywhere I go people are reading it, knitting from it, talking about it.

Glad to hear you're healing.

Those are beautiful socks, and such a great green in time for spring (and your spring break!).

Lovely socks - you seem much more content with the results than with the knee highs. I definitely like that shade of green! Congrats on completing your comps and good luck with the defense. You have earned a nice rest!
