End of summer

I took this picture one evening last week when Bill and I went to the Gibeau Orange Julep (celebrating 75 years this year!) for a seemed-like-a-good-idea-at-the-time dinner of hot dogs and poutine. I think it was when I noticed how early it's getting dark now.

I love back-to-school time. As a Ph.D. student, one no longer goes back to school. One just stays in school all the time. Still, I'm on that student schedule where everything begins anew after Labour Day. I was at the library this week, and I was like a vampire sucking energy from all of those eager new undergrads. I'm so ready for fall. I was feeling a little guilty about my meager academic output over the summer, but I'm over it and I'm looking ahead. And I'm excited.

(Having said that, I'm taking today off and heading out soon to go to the Body Worlds exhibit at the Science Centre! And I'm really excited about that.)

Man, oh man, do I agree. Even though life for us Ph.D. students really hasn't changed, it's hard not to feel all that first-day-of-school excitement when you're surrounded by optimistic young undergrads. I'm getting into school a full hour earlier these days as a result! Yipee!

have fun at the exhibit! i hear it's amazing, i missed in when it was in toronto and i'm still sad.

and as someone who always yearns to be back in school, i agree with the coming of fall, productivity, energy, etc.

I should try "sucking the energy" from the new undergrads rather than focusing on our increasing age gap!

Have fun at the science center. Its a pretty amazing exhibit!

Love that photo... Several times this week, I've looked up in the evening to check the time, sure it was 9:30... and it was barely 8. Yikes!

That is one thing I hate about being out of school. I miss that marking of times of the year and fresh starts.

Great picture. Is that the place that's in the big orange? I feel like it should be the inspiration for a piece of knitwear, maybe a hat.

And have fun at the Bodyworks exhibit. I pass the posters back and forth to school, and it looks like a neat exhibit.

I've heard raves about that exhibit - have a great time! Love the big orange - kind of a symbol of summer gone by....I hate that it is getting dark early now. Get up in the dark, go home in the dark. Boo.

I love the photo and crave seeing it in person... the hotdog/poutine dinner sounds gross because I just ate dinner, but I can imagine a time when it would sound EXCELLENT... for the first half of the meal. And I'd want to go to Gibeau Orange Julep to have such a meal.

I sometimes miss this time of excitement and anticipation of everything that is new when it comes to school. To remedy it, I got o Staples and buy unnecessary school supplies. :)
