Alpacas, a stump, sock progress, and more

I went for a walk the other evening, mostly so I could visit the alpacas that live down the road from my parents. I stopped at the fence to look at them, and they all started walking toward me! (It was like a zombie movie, but with fleece-bearing animals.) Here they come:

They were funny. They're all different colours and different sizes. One was extra friendly and came right up to the fence to say hello, so I gave it a little grass in exchange for a photo:

As I was walking back, I was struck by this cherry-tree stump -- doesn't this look remarkably like a statue of a woman's torso?

And the next picture was taken at the spot where I used to wait for the school bus. It shows you all of the elements of the local landscape: semi-desert dryness in the foreground; orchard in the middle; and the lake and mountains in the background.

As I mentioned in the last post, I've had a ton of knitting time. I've already gone through a 50g ball of sock yarn on my first Clessidra Stocking, and here's what that looks like:

So far, so good. A few people commented about the splittiness of Sisu, and it's true -- I probably wouldn't use it again for cables. But other than that, I like it; in fact, I bought enough for two more pairs of socks. (Five dollars a ball, and it comes in great colours.) Trying on the Clessidra-in-progress feels like I'm wearing a sleeve on my leg. It sure is pretty, though.

One more picture, of something I noticed when I was in town a few days ago -- it's on the side of a school, ha ha:

Oh, those crazy kids.

Nice to see you making friends... four legs good!

That Alpaca has huge marbles for eyes! Get a load of how far they stick out of her head!

I was amazed at how fast my Clessidra knit up. I think it is the interesting patterning that keeps it moving along.

Hi, I like SISU even though it splits a bit. It keeps the shape after lots of washes and is warm and comfy! Those Clessidra looks very nice.

Sounds like a great, relaxing trip home! I'm jealous of the beautiful lake and the close proximity to alpacas. I did manage to pet a bunch of baby goats over the weekend, though, so I'm not TOO jealous.

Clessidra's looking beautiful!

Oh my, BC is so gorgeous. I love the alpaca photos - how cool that they're right nearby! But most of all, I love your Clessidra-in-progress. Why, oh why don't I need more knee socks?? I may have to knit this one anyway... yours are looking just beautiful.

If my passport does not come in time, I just might walk across the border to visit your parents in BC! Love the alpacas. Love, love, love your socks. I am thinking someday, maybe in Knitpicks Gloss. Also, how could you leave that thrift store with so few buttons?! I would have dug my hand in and purchase whatever I pulled out.

Clessidra looks beautiful, I think I need some. I know you are away but do you know if there is anythng happening in Montreal knit in public day on June 9th? - lucky me will be there that weekend. And can you recommend a fabulous yarn store that I must see, I think I can only convince the boy to go to one

Oooh pretty. That goes for every picture except the last, which is a good one: the funny thing is when you *try* to read it, it's really hard, even though you instantly know what it says to begin with.

Lovely photos. I so LOVE the Okanagan. I spent every Summer from around the Age of 9 'til I was 17 staying with my Aunt (the one who taught me to knitt) in Okanagan Falls--there isn't a prettier place anywhere!!
