Interweave thoughts

The spring issue of IK arrived today, and I'm really not a fan of the changes in its design. Lots of the editorial pages look like ads, which is confusing. And I miss seeing the designer's name with each piece -- now you have to flip back to the patterns to see whose work you're admiring. Still, I like lots of the patterns, and the springy colours are lovely.

I simply must have a Dollar and a Half Cardigan. I love it so so so much; as always, Véronik is a genius. (And she's finally blogging!) There are other designs that I really like, but will not likely make: Kate's Keyhole Top is so pretty; Stefanie's Cable-Down Raglan is awesome; and Eunny's Entrelac Socks are stunning. I'll probably make Grumperina's Roza's Socks at some point. The Clementine Shawlette is awfully cute, too (without the little flippers at each end).

And did I mention the Dollar and a Half Cardigan? I don't just want to knit it -- I want to marry it.

I know! I couldn't tell the ads from the content either.

Dollar and a Half Cardigan yes, but don't forget Tea Rose Halter Top!

Maybe I need to look at it again, but there doesn't seem to be as many articles.

I've already swatched for the Half Dollar. I felt the same way, had to have it.

I still haven't got my Winter IK... (needless to say I am not re-subscribing)

The new design drove me nuts - the designer problem, plus all the flipping back and forth between the big picture and the pattern. That felt like I was reading INKnitters or Knit'n'Style of something - NOT a favorable comparison!

I completely agree with you regarding the pages looking like ads. That's what I thought yesterday when I flipped through and blogged about it.

A girl after my heart!! The website photos did not do the Dollar and a Half justice. When I saw the magazine, it was a must have.
Happy Knitting!

Great minds do think alike. a)I must have the $1.50 cardi and already have yarn for it; b) I hate the new IK layout; c)I thought those little flippers on the shawl looked weird.
All in all it is a good IK issue.

PS I am loving your crochet blanket, I might even learn crochet to make one.

i love that cardigan, too. and i think the new layout is kind of confusing really.

The new layout reminds me of a fashion magazine - I think it's that ambiguous editorial/advertorial thing. I have a pretty strong dislike of fashion magazines - they depress me! - and it took a couple of passes through the new IK to get beyond that.

I agree on all points. Ms. Avery=total genius. I do not like the flipping back and forth in the new layout of IK, but I do appreciate that when you flip to the pattern there is a good size photo of the FO.

That cardigan is beautiful, maybe I'll have to think about restarting my subscription...

i must agree with everyone else that i don't care for the new IK layout. the bigger pictures are nice but i don't like the fashion magazine feel.

I'm with you on the dollar and a half cardigan. When I saw it I wanted to drop the projects I'm working on and start it immediately.

Interesting thoughts on the new IK. I have mixed feelings about it too. Thanks for the heads-up about VĂ©ronik.

Yeah, mixed feelings. I am not a big fan, but I can't quite say yet. Maybe after I knit a pattern from it. Yeah, loving that cardigan too! :)

I had the same reaction to the new layout, but I also think that the new instructions page layouts are awesome. More photos of the sweater so you don't have to flip back and forth (ahem), and the copy is easier to read. So yeah: strongly dislike the fashion spread, but love the instructions.

I am with you on the new IK Knits design! It's like they crossed over into women's-mag-editorial style layout...it was so disconcerting to me to see those photos of the items and have to flip all the way through to find out the yarn and requirements.
