What is this?

And now for something completely different: Cotton. Cables. Tiny. Trellis.

I'm going to wash the pieces of Bill's vest today -- I'm still not sure whether I'll also wash some Swish for seaming. In the meantime, I cast on last night for something so unlike anything I've knit in ages, which is this little cabled baby sweater.

It's not something I've been planning, but I went over to the dark side of shopping last week to buy an ironing board at an evil box store that shall not be named, and I just happened to find myself in the yarn aisle, where I discovered these big, cheap balls of allegedly "recycled earth-friendly yarn" (75% cotton, 25% acrylic) called Eco-Fil. (I believe that the French word fil means "thread.") Now, I bought one ball -- even though I'm suspicious of its eco-ness -- because it was only four dollars. Here's why I'm suspicious: there is no manufacturer info on the label. Who made this stuff? I think if it was really so "earth-friendly," there would be more information about that, or a website URL or something that would promote that company that is making this supposedly recycled yarn. I just find it a little weird, and it also bugs me that the label tells me what the yarn weighs (225 g) but not the yardage. (I'd call it sport weight.)

Anyway, I bought one ball and decided to use it for a wee Trellis sweater. It's going to be awfully cute, and maybe there will be leftover yarn for a hat. More bright colours for babies, I say!

I have long loved Trellis. A little googling turned up nothing about Eco-Fil except that it seems to be available only at the evil box stores in Canada. Very mysterious!

p.s. Should anything be construed by your choice of knitting projects?

I made Trellis for a baby cousin last year and it was the most adorable baby sweater. Great color choice too. I went with a dark red, though I just used some cheap-o Sugar n Cream yarn.

I still adore Amelie's cheapo Cotton Ease Trellis. I got so many compliments on that one! Whoever gets to wear your cutie Trellis will be adorable in that color.

So cute. You'll need more than one ball to make a sweater to fit me, though...

I like the color, and the fiber content sounds great for babyware...hopefully it will work!

i just invested in a well used ironing board because i wasn't ready to shell out the money for a good one at one of those evil stores. my mom wanted me to scavange the local thrift stores, instead i used craigslist.

anyways, killing time this afternoon in the lab and I googled about your yarn. someone, on a crochet blog, wrote that the Eco-Fil (only purchased at that evil store) is manufactured by Filature B&G Spinning Mill. Googling about them, their website lists their general product line but does not allow you to see their specific product line without registering at their site. annoying.

Speaking of babies...I'm an uncle again! Little Angelina Maria was born on Friday. Mummy Silke and Daddy Patty are doing well. We wet the baby's head, actually soaked it, at my place Friday night.

I almost bought that yarn too. But I googled first out of curiousity, and like everyone else, couldn't find anything. Come on now, who in this day and age doesn't have a website?

LOL - maybe it's black market yarn...

I received a ball of the same yarn for Christmas, and I am curious about it too. I've never seen it in any of "those" stores around here, but ours are hardly of the Big Box variety...

I love that pattern, and I totally agree with using bright colours for babies! Enough with the pastels, people. haha.

I just discovered that yarn at the evil empire [they were the only ones with the kidlet Booster seat I needed, alas]on Friday. Again, googling got me nothing helpful. :-/
