Monkeys

Pattern: Monkey
Yarn: Fleece Artist Merino 2/6
Needle: 2.25mm circular

I like my new Monkey socks; it's a good pattern for yarn that is variegated but not too crazy. I also like that they match my latest sewing mini-project, which is a skirt hem. I thrifted a black linen skirt a year or so ago and have been meaning to hem it for ages. I finally got around to it, using some wide turquoise bias tape (also thrifted). I should have been more careful, as the tape doesn't lie flat, but it still looks cute. And with my Monkey socks and old shoes, I have a sweet new outfit -- look, I'll model on the picnic table on my parents' patio:

Nice view, isn't it? That's Okanagan Lake in the background, and that's the view I grew up with. I'm having a nice, relaxing time here, visiting family, seeing friends I haven't seen in years (and in several cases, meeting their children for the first time). It's been warm and sunny. I definitely feel like I'm on holiday. Still disappointed about my change in plans -- thanks for your commiseration, and no, I couldn't get a passport in time, and I've already changed my tickets, so I'll be flying back straight from Vancouver -- but I'm having a good time. The days are longer here, you see. Time doesn't seem to move very quickly, so the days are long and pretty quiet. I plan to have a very nice weekend, involving garage saling, more visiting, and lots of eating. I hope you have a good one too.

I'll leave you with the standard flat-sock shot -- behold the power of a good wet block!

They're absolutely gorgeous!! And very cute with the skirt.

Bummer about the changed plans - but BC sounds wonderful! *makes mental note to renew passport ASAP*

Faboo socks! And in my favourite colours. I think we must have grown up close to each other...if I stood right in our yard we could see Skaha lake.

Love your monkey socks and I agree with your comment about the variegated yarn. I'm on the heel flap of Monkey sock 2 and I can see myself knitting this pattern again.

So sorry about the passport. I renewed mine on March 26th and just got it in the mail today! Although it did come 2 weeks faster than what they said it would take. I hear passports are processed much faster in Canada.

cute outfit!
Where in the OK valley are you? I'm in Kelowna. Been reading your blog since 2004 when I was looking for Canadians living in China, cause I was going there to teach English. The fact that you were "dealing with a knitting obsession one day at a time" really caught my attention. You're very inspiring. You've accomplished so much. My hero!

That lake looks gorgeous. Love the socks and bias tape hem - I can see why getting it to life flat would be tricky, though.

Your weekend sounds heavenly. Sorry about the passport hiccup, though. The socks look great with the skirt! You are truly my thrifting hero. Enjoy the rest of your holiday.

Adorable socks and adorable outfit! I have fond memories of garage saling in Penticton and area when I lived there. Although I recall the norm was to start the sales pretty early in the morning. Have fun!

If it is any consolation it is grey and cold in SF right now. I love, love, love your Monkeys! I can't wait to knit mine. I have to check my queue to see when they are up.

Have a good time in B.C.! I went there last summer and it was wonderful. You can do SF next time, it'll be here for you. Love the Monkey socks, too!

I love the socks!!! I just started a pair of them. And there are some tricks to sewing bias tape down that I will try to write down and email you. I am sure that your mother has a word to say about you standing on her table but you are enjoying yourself so that is what matters!!!
