Now that's a lot of yarn

Here's a sight that any knitter would be happy to come across:

Thanks to a tip from reader Marlyce, I stopped in at the Coats & Clark outlet store just off the 401 in Mississauga on my way home from Hamilton on Saturday. (I was doing research in Toronto, but staying in Hamilton.) It was my kind of place: treasures mixed with horrors! I love that kind of shopping, because if you find something good it feels extra special. (It's the same principle behind the fun of thrift shopping.) Say, for example, if you go through shelves of glittery fun fur, and then shelves of decent wool in hideous colours, but then you find yourself looking at a wall of Nashua Handknits chunky wool-alpaca in a lovely shade of brick red for $25 a bag (1,100 yards -- enough for a toasty cardigan) -- well, that feels pretty awesome.

I'm off to browse bulky-cardigan patterns on Ravelry now... hmmm... maybe Sienna? Or a modified Shalom, with long sleeves? Or just a top-down raglan? Or maybe Kyra, or a beltless Starsky, or... or...

I am seriously in love with my Starsky. It was a fantastic knit, and it's super cozy. I vote that.

oh, thanks for the tip about this outlet. next time I'm home, I just may have to check it out!

I would vote for Kyra except the model's pose is so inane that the sweater now makes me feel stabby.

Congratulations on a great find. It will be interesting to see what you, Queen of All Research, decide to knit!

That is a great find! I really like Shalom, but I'm sure that any of those will look great!

I'm glad you enjoyed your shopping trip! My friend bought a pattern book by Nashua--The North American Design Collection Autumn2005/Winter 2006. (Check the pictures on their website). We're both making the Kimono Wrap Jacket--Audrey is doing it in the brick red which you bought, and I'm doing a brilliant blue version. It also calls for Nashua Painted Forest which, the day I was there, was on sale for $15/bag!! Let me know if you want to see the pattern. Marlyce in Windsor, Ontario

I am a little bit concerned that if there is a news report about one of these "yarn trucks" getting hijacked, the cops will be staking out my sister's house!

Hi Alison, I can't remember if I ever commented on your blog before(shame!) but I sure have a reason this time!

I chose your blog as one of my four favorite blogs, just to bring you some joy and give you the opportunity to spread the joy yourself. :) Check my blog for more info.

I've been missing more photos of Mooky, how's he doing? I'd love to know! :)

All the best,
Dagný

I think I might have robbed that truck - that's how much I love Patons.
