Quilt Rescue Society, world headquarters
Oops, I did it again. I bought a quilt this afternoon -- for $15, seemingly my magic number when it comes to old quilts. This one was at Value Village. I hadn't been to la boutique VV in a while, but I was having a grumpy day (the result of three terrible nights' sleep, which were in turn the result of horrible humidity), and that's somewhere I go to cheer up. And it worked! Because this is what I found there, as seen on my backyard clothesline:
It's very thin -- I think it has a sheet of flannel instead of batting inside. The back is plain white, with yellow-orange binding from the front. All the sewing was done on a machine. It also has some small rips and tears. I haven't washed it yet (which is why the price tag is still on it, just above the centre there). I love the cheerful colours, and there are some fun fabrics -- polka dots, etc.
I didn't measure it, but I'd guess it's for a double bed. I think we'll use it to sit on outside. In the meantime, I'm just going to keep looking at it out on the clothesline, where it is blowing back and forth and brightening my day (and my neighbours'? and yours?).
Another orphaned-quilt-finds-a-home success story!

Man, you have all the luck with the old quilts! I never come across this kind of thing! It's fantastic!
What a great quilt! And really funny, actually, because I too love "le V & V boutique"--it is the best!
I hear you on the lack of quality sleep and resulting grumpiness this week...grrr. I'm hoping some yarn shopping tomorrow will help shake the funk off. Great quilt, and I hope you get some zzzzs soon!
Quilt shopping is not what springs to my mind on hot and humid days. I tend to go to the beach!
You have inspired me to keep a look out for quilts that need rescuing too! Thanks!!
Oh, the humidity! Dreadful. But a wonderfully cheery quilt!
Jackpot!
yay! i love that one. i can see how it would cheer you up.
hope you get some sleep this weekend!
Alright, I'm blaming you for this new quilt obsession of mine! Your beautiful vintage quilts have been making me want to learn to quilt in the worst way! -- and secretly I thank you too :) For inspiration :) Have a great weekend
Total score! vk
Love the quilt and I too have found a few great old quilts for under $25. One is dated 1913. First time to comment but have been reading your blog for a couple of years and I couldn't resist on this one.
