Yeehaw!
I seem to have knit myself a neck kerchief! (...which makes me think of the Wild West, hence the yeehaw.) The lace-leftovers swap is underway, but I didn't use leftovers for this. At Rhinebeck last year, the ladies from Ariadne were handing out tiny sample skeins of Cherry Tree Hill Merino Lace. It turns out that with about 95 yards of laceweight yarn, one can knit a lace triangle that measures about 25 inches across the top -- big enough to wear as a kerchief. (I don't think I actually will wear it, since I'm not really a hot-pink kind of girl, but I could.) 
Rather than a wearable object, I think of this triangle as a sampler. It enabled me to try a new yarn (colourway is Wild Cherries) and some new lace. I used Evelyn Clark's book, Knitting Lace Triangles, and did two 10-row repeats of Medallion Lace and one 20-row repeat of Ripple Lace. I learned that these two stitch patterns look good together, and I learned that the Ripple Lace looks sharp but wasn't very fun to do. (Did I mention it's a 20-row repeat?) 
OK, I need to pack! Talk to you soon, from the west coast. Oh my goodness, I just realized I don't have anything to knit on the plane...

Have fun in Vancouver! Hope you're planning on going to the Aquarium. That was one of my favorite parts.

A lovely idea and the result is so pretty!
It might not be a color you'd wear, but it definitely works. And it is a nice way to try your hand at design without too much time at stake.
Have fun in Vancouver - hopefully it isn't as soggy as the forecast suggests... Now, that is a really cute neckwarmer - totally the sort of thing I need for work in the winter when I wear my hair up.

I think the kerchief is beautiful and it looks good on you. You could turn it around and wear it ties facing front if you feel it's too cowboyish that way. It also looks great on the windowsill.

Oh my goodness. I think I just saw you today in Mad About Ewe in Nanaimo. I was standing there, probably staring inappropriately, trying to figure out how I knew you. It took me 4 hours to realize that . . well . . I don't know you, well not really, I just recognized you from your pictures on your blog. You are famous! You are being accidently stalked in foreign cities. . Anyways I thought it was funny. Hope you had a great trip here even though the weather is miserable (Is anyone else casting on a scarf tonight? :) ).
