Smrt

As you know, I'm getting a Ph.D. (Thanks for your comps congrats! Let's never even say the word "comps" again, OK?) So obviously, I'm real smart, right? Yeah. So let's take a look at a photo for a second:

I wanted to show you my new T-shirt, see, and clearly the best way to do that is to take a photo in a mirror. Honestly, it wasn't even until I pulled up the shots on my computer that I realized this would mean the print on the T-shirt would be backwards. Yes, I am living proof that book-smarts has nothing at all to do with being able to function in day-to-day life.

Fortunately, I have PhotoShop and can flip the photo so you can see the awesomeness of my new shirt:

In the days before I was to submit my comps paper which shall not be named, I was spending a lot of time on Ravelry because it was a much happier place than my brain was. It was in the midst of Ravelraising, so there was all kinds of stuff going on, and I happened to enter a contest and win a prize for my entry. It was a real boost at the time. Now, the day after defending my you-know-what, my prize has arrived in the mail! I'm now the happy owner of the aforementioned awesome T-shirt, which came from City Knitting, as well as the very spring-pretty skein of yarn I'm holding there, which is Anne Shirley (!) by Yarn Love, in the Serenity colourway. I'm very lucky. And, let's not forget, real damn smart, too.

congrats on passing the gauntlet of the academic process that shall not be named!

my husband, who's far less academically inclined, constantly reminds me of how book smarts don't translate seamlessly into everyday smarts. maybe some logic circuits get replaced with highly specific knowledge the more you're in school or something.

btw, any chance you'll be in T.O. between the 12th and 18th of June?

Yep, congrats on that which shall not be named. Grad school is a struggle, but I think I can say, as someone who just finished, that it's worth it.

And heart your tee shirt. Must get me one...

very nice shirt and yarn. what a nice way to celebrate another academic hazing event successfully negotiated! ;) however ... being smart enough to maneuver around too much book smarts should count for something, right?

That is a cute t-shirt. Also, you are smart-you immediately solved the problem of how to get the image flipped. Some people aren't smart enough to figure that one out. Congrats on defending your paper-that-shall-not-be-named!

You are being pretty good. When I earned my Master's I tried to convince everyone that this meant they had to call me Master.
