Mah kwilt
Lookee what I finished this afternoon! 
Sewing the triangles together into rows was reasonably straightforward, but sewing the rows together got a little tricky; I did quarter-inch seams for all the triangles, but the triangle points got cut off when I sewed the first two rows together with a quarter-inch seam, so I had to use only an eighth of an inch. (Scary! Please don't come apart!) I still lost a few pointy points, but you can't really tell unless you're looking -- which I know you are, so here's a closer shot: 
I would never have thought to use yellows, but Bill's sister (who is an amazing quilter) sent me some fat quarters for Christmas, including the dogs and the sailors. So I found the other yellows in various places, and I'm very pleased. This will be such a cheery little quilt! The yellows are very warm. This is quite a bit bigger than my previous two quilts, but still just crib sized; this top measures about 46 inches by 54 inches. I'm not really looking forward to putting the layers together, because I don't really enjoy crawling around on the floor, but I'll do that next and then start hand-quilting.

Super cute! I cut out all the triangles for this forever ago (orange and white) and never got to the piecing part. Now I'm inspired to dig them out again!
I have found using a table makes the quilt sandwich part immensely easier. I of course do not have a table big enough, but if you can find one to use, I highly recommend it.
This came out so awesome! The last shot totally makes me want to have like, wallpaper that looks exactly like that!

What's so bad about layering up a crib sized quilt? You want to try doing a King-sized top, particularly on a floor space which is slightly small for a single-bed sized top!
We have, quite often.

That was quick! You're right about the yellows being so cheerful. And the plain white frames it very well.
Hand quilting is going to make it look very homey! I always think it adds a vintage touch :)

i luvz it! Seriously, it's all your fault I went out and bought yellow fabric. I like yellow but always ignore it because it doesn't look good on me - turns out quilts are the perfect outlet! Beautiful work, really. What DO people do about cutting off triangle points?
Oh I love this, but now I have terrible guilt! I have had my version of this quilt cut out for almost two years, for shame! Anyway great job!
It's so bright and spring-y, I love it!
Do you have a large table you can use? We have a beat up kitchen table that I've used to layer quilts up to about twin size on. Tape the backing face down so that it's smooth and tight (clear packing tape is great for this), then the batting, then the face up top and pin or baste the layers together. If I'm just tying the block corners rather than quilting I'll leave it taped til I'm done. No crawling on the floor and no dog hair or kitty footprints on the quilt. For a larger quilt, I've used 2 glass-topped conference tables pushed together in a study room at the college where my husband teaches (underutilized during vacation).

The annoyance with crawling around the floor is one of the reasons why I don't sew my own clothing more often (along with about a dozen other reasons, but that is the bigger ones).

I have learned to beware of piecing triangles. One of those three sides is in a bias direction so it can stretch as it is sewn. I've taken to go as far as piece with a walking foot to avoid stretching triangles on its bias side.
