FO: Adamas Shawl

My impatience got the better of me; when the sun came out for five minutes this afternoon, I clothespinned my shawl to the living room curtain and took a few pictures.

I'm pleased with the finished shawl. The pattern is clear and straightforward; I didn't change a thing. The yarn (Yarn Chef Buttercream merino) thrilled me from beginning to end, and I imagine I'll get some more sometime. Love it. And this is about as variegated as I'd want to get with a lace shawl.

I did try to model it for you, but there just really wasn't enough light. Here's the best one of those shots:

That's about all I have to say about that. One of these days when I'm wearing this shawl, I'll take a photo so you can see it in action. But, you know, I'm going to scrunch it up and wrap it around my neck like a scarf, and it will get stretched out and soft, and it might not look as pretty in a photo, but it will be a beautiful thing.

I used about 80 grams of yarn for this shawl, and it's a biggie: about six feet across the top and three feet deep at the point. So I have 20 grams left, which is about 176 yards, give or take a dozen yards. If you've knit a few shawls, you probably have small amounts of laceweight yarn left over, too. (I have a little over 100 yards of Zephyr wool-silk left from my Swallowtail Shawl, as well.) You've probably wondered, as I have, what to do with it. If so, and if you're on Ravelry, allow me to direct your attention to this mini lace triangle, made with just 94 yards of laceweight merino. So cute! (Sorry, non-Ravelers; the knitter's blog is here, but she hasn't posted about the mini shawl -- not yet, anyway.)

And here's what I'm thinking. I don't want to organize a big thing, but if there are a few lace knitters out there who have about 100 yards of laceweight lying around, shall we have a little trade? And then we can knit little neck triangles? I think it would be a fun way to try a new yarn and to use up some leftovers. OK, I'm making this up as I go along, but how about this: if you'd like to be part of a Laceweight Leftovers trade, send me an e-mail (brainylady[at]hotmail[dot]com) over the weekend, with "mini-shawl yarn swap" in the subject line. (You can leave a comment, of course, but stupid Blogger won't give me your e-mail address and I'd want to be able to reply.) Depending on the level of interest, I'll figure out the details for a wee swap-ola.

(Please note: This would in no way be a Big Deal! Leftovers only! No buying new stuff allowed! None of that swap-insanity where people spend a gazillion dollars adding extra shit to a package of yarn!! In fact, the amount of yarn should be small enough that it could be smushed and flattened and stuffed into a pretty small envelope for a reasonable amount of postage.)

Anyone?

That shawl looks great. I don't have any leftovers yet, but I plan on it - one of these days. I have some lace weight and plans to make a shawl!

Did you do something to your hair? It looks great! You look good in orange!

I miss you hun, hope to see you soon!

What a great idea. I like your anti "swap-insanity" sentiments in particular! I wish I could play, but I'm not a laceweight knitter. I don't enjoy knitting with such fine yarn which is a shame because I love the laceweight scarves and shawls! Good luck to your swap. :)

The Adamas shawl is lovely! Like the other commenters, I love that shade of orange.
As it so happens, I have quite a bit of leftover laceweight yarn, and your swap is such a good idea. Sign me up!

Your shawl came out really nice, especially with that awesome yarn color!!

Luv your lace idea! Too bad I haven't dug into this yet (plan to this summer), but I will be watching to see what you all come up with in this swap/trade!

Hopefully I will be able to do it next time. I like that you are keeping it low maintenance!

Your shawl is just beautiful.

I won't have much leftover laceweight until after the Season of Lace KAL (see Ravelry), but I'd bet if you asked the KAL members to swap small amounts of lace at the end of the summer you'd get lots of takers. That is really a great idea.

It's a beautifully sunny shawl with just the right amount of variegation.

I love the juicy and refreshing colour of your shawl. The mini-scarf is a fab idea: no frills recycling at its finest.

I love the mini lace triangle idea! I would have so signed up for the swappy thing if I hadn't been so completely swamped that I missed pretty much all of the blogs for a week.

Pooey. It would be a good use of some of the random lace mohair I dyed a couple of years ago.
