Cable Rib Socks

This is it: the sum of my Xmas knitting. Done! These are the Cable Rib Socks by Erica Alexander (spring 2005 IK / Favorite Socks), knit in Reynolds Soft Sea Wool in a nice rich grapey purple. They're a gift for somebody who loves purple. Reading comments by other knitters who have made these socks, I've seen that some are unhappy with the way the cables travel across one rib from the leg to the foot, but I find it interesting in its unexpectedness. Here's a closer look:

This doesn't mean I've finished my Christmas crafting -- I'm sewing most of my handmade gifts this year. Almost done those, too, though. I'll show you that project after the 25th.

We decorated our tree last night. I'll try to take a nice picture of it at night with its lights on, but here's a shot to show you our frozen front window:

(I don't have to say anything about yesterday's snow, do I?)

I like how the cable travels, too! Lovely socks. And I hope you don't have to go anywhere while the city digs out. :)

the rib is part of the cable, so I don't mind it at all!!!!

But if it were on the same rib on the leg as on the foot, it wouldn't be centered up the side of the leg.

I like how the cable travels too. It makes the sock far more interesting.

Hope you're keeping warm! The frost is beautiful.

It is probably only because I'm safely ensconced in the southeastern US that I can say that I kind of miss frozen windows.... Stay warm!

The socks look delicious! I love the pic of the corner of your home. It just epitomizes the Holidays to me - the beautiful tree and the frosty window. Pass the hot cup of tea and shortbread, please! Of course, I don't miss having to shovel snow or warm up the car for 20 minutes any more!

Oooo I do like that travelling cable voodoo you do. After twisting a bit, it folds in a strand from the heel. Very nice indeed.

I love those socks! They look so toasty and squooshy and warm.

Gosh that looks cold. It is so hard to believe you're getting struck by snow ploughs and we're enjoying 26c and sunshine! I must confess I'd like to see a bit of your winter, though. Perhaps just a month. My tree is decorated, too! We did it last week.

Love, love, love the socks. I like the rib continuing next to the ribbing. Lucky recipient. Merry Christmas (beautiful tree).

The snow looks like it hit hard. But the frosted over window makes the tree look pretty.

I'd like a little bit of that snow here - like an inch or two.

Love those socks! Excellent knitting. Like that baby hat, too.

The socks look great! I just recall thinking that I'd somehow messed up the pattern when I saw how the cable changed. After studying the pattern pictures closer, knowing it was on purpose, I did like the look.

Your Christmas tree looks so pretty, especially with your outside background.
