Chez Mooky: Now serving catnip taco
Last night as I headed out to buy some groceries, Bill said, "See if they have pet things -- we should get Mooky some kind of catnip toy now that he's inside so much." Excuse me? Buy my cat a catnip toy? No, I don't think so. Not this crafty lady.
This morning I got to work with some of my adorable scraps from lilybug. I cut two triangles and one long inch-wide strip from the heavy cotton (almost denim, really) fabric and sewed them all together like half a sandwich. Then I used some thin muslin to make a little bag; I put 2 teaspoons of Cosmic Catnip into the bag and sewed it up. I stuffed the three corners of the half-a-sandwich with fiberfill, pushed the bag o' catnip into the half-a-sandwich, stuffed a little more fiberfill in, and sewed up the opening.
It probably took me an hour to make this from start to finish. I presented it to Mooky, and he had a whale of a time with it. For about 45 seconds. It was during that time that it came to be called the catnip taco. It was just easier. Compare: (a) "Well, hallo there, Mooky. Are you enjoying your new catnip-scented item that is shaped like half a sandwich?" (b) "Mooky! Catnip tacooooo!!"
I have to admit that I don't even remember buying that catnip, so it's not the strongest-smelling stuff. But he did play with it again later, and then when he was napping on the bed this afternoon I put it next to him, and when I went back in there a little later, one corner of the taco was soggy. I think he likes it. I liked making it -- it was certainly more fun than an hour of Baudrillard.

So the taco didn't affect Mook, but YOUR hands were shaking. Hmmm.
I don't know why I haven't commented on this before, but your cat is gorgeous! That first photo makes me want to just reach through the computer screen and rub him against my face, he looks so soft.
I miss my all-black cat, Sara. We only had her for 3 weeks, but our (now) 7 year old cat Sam wasn't happy being a chew-toy for a playful kitten, so we had to give her away. Forutunately we found a family who treat their cats as their kids, with their own rooms, etc, so she is incredibly well loved. Even more fortunately, Sam doesn't mind being an older brother to our new son Jakob...so we don't have to worry about giving Jakob away. :)
We have a cigar-shaped one for our cats. We call it the "kitty hash-pipe".
I love how you put on your "Crafty Cape" and whipped up a much loved toy for the oh, so handsome Mooky.
He's looking so good! Thanks for letting us see how well he recovered after the last bad business outdoors.
We have a flat featureless teddy bear object that we sprinkle catnip on. Works like a charm, giving us tons of free entertainment.
I keep thinking I should make some of the knit kitty toys from the S&B books, but I've never gotten past the "I ought to stage."
Putting it into the container of catnip overnight will probably make it even more fun for Mooky. :)
Um...almost *anything* is more fun than half an hour of baudrillard :)
Now I must make catnip tacos for my kitties. Thanks for the idea (because it's gonna be more fun that half an hour of dissertation writing, i can guarantee!)
TWO Mooky posts in one week! You're spoiling me! ;)
Man, in that first picture Mooky is really stoned!
Mimi says what pretty green eyes Mooky has. But she also said he was silly because food is much better than catnip. (Can you tell she doesn't like catnip?)
And kitties don't mind messy sewing.
Mooky is gorgeous, I think I'm in kitty-cat love... luckily for me he looks remarkably like the kitty-cat-love-of-my-life Sam, who is snoozing next to me on the couch.
Aaaw! My little black cat does that same rub face with catnip stuffed object thing. Adorable.
