Anastasia socks: done

No sooner had I cast off the tops of my Anastasia socks with a tubular k1p1 bind-off than I found them lounging on the couch, in all their spirally glory.

I'm glad these are finally done. I like them, but I'm not head over heels, so to speak. I knit them toe-up, as called for in the pattern, and since I'm sick of having small amounts of leftover yarn, I decided to knit the pair from opposite ends of the skein and just keep going until I'd used it all. I wish I'd done more spiralling before starting the ribbing. (Why yes, I am too lazy to rip out the ribbing and knit more spiralling, thank you for asking.) I'm also not in love with the 1-by-1 ribbing, but I haven't yet found a way to bind off 2-by-2 ribbing in a pleasing way. Anyhoo, I'm just reminded that I'm not really fond of toe-up socks. No biggie. I do like these, and I did use all the yarn -- and I really like the yarn: wool/nylon sock yarn in "Fall Fire" from LuLu's Yarns. Plus these socks are taller than most, which is good for boot-wearing. So, overall, I give the pattern a big thumbs up, the yarn a thumbs up, and some of my choices a meh.

Oh, I think they look cool with the tall cuff!

Knit your 2x2, then knit only 1 round of 1x1 then do a tubular bind off.

I'd say, get used to them because they look great and I bet they will turn out to be the pair of socks that's always either on the foot or in the laundry.

I rarely have the patience for a long ribbed cuff, but I always like the look of it. I think they look great!

When I was looking at the picture before reading your post, I was getting really into the longer cuff! I'm knitting Cookie A.'s Baudelaire socks right now, and they are my first toe ups - I was thinking that a taller cuff would be cool for using up the whole skein.

BTW, I'm a long-time reader of your blog, but I don't know if I've ever commented before. Your knitting is so beautiful, and your posts so entertaining! Thanks for sharing.

The socks are wonderful. Love the pattern and the colour.
The same kind of tubular/sewn bind-off can be used for 2x2 ribbing. There's a diagram and instructions in "Hand Knitting Techniques from Threads Magazine", which is unfortunately out of print, but can still be had for a somewhat reasonable price. It's one of the most helpful books on my shelf. The article is by Montse Stanley, so it may be in her book as well, though I can't say for sure since I don't have it. Anyhoo, if you ever need a walk-through, let me know.

I like the long cuff. It's funky.

The colour makes me hungry. Wait a second... no, I'm just hungry and the colour reminds me of tomatoes.

i love them! and i've found that the decrease bind-off mentioned in montse stanley is a great stretchy bind-off. you can use it on 2x2 ribbing, i believe.

So check this out, Alison: when i first saw the pic and was looking at it and your cute feet/legs/socks my thought was I Love How She Made Her Ribbing So Long, That Looks So Rad! So I've decided you can change your mind and love the long ribbing like I do if you want. xo!

I love those socks. My favorite (not so much binding, because I'm lazy and only really bind off in one way) ribbing right now is twisted stitch ribbing like in the Monkey socks. I find that it still holds up without being too tight and lets the stitches just pop right out.

They're adorable, but I'm with you on the toe-up thing. Don't like the knitting of them, don't like the wearing of them. Gimme a nice heel flap every time.

Though if you don't want those socks, I can think of a good home for them. ;P
