Poll: Which frames?

First of all, you guys are so awesome with your eyewear advice! Keep it coming, please -- I'm learning a lot.

OK, I headed back out with my camera. The first two choices are the two pairs I'd tried on this morning, and the third choice is from another place I went into this afternoon. You can click the pictures to make them bigger (i.e., to see my face closer than you probably ever wanted to), and then you can cast your vote at the bottom. (I'm going to vote, too.) Thanks!

Poll closed at 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11. Thanks for voting! Final results:

If you liked the slight shape variation of pair (c), they need to be a size smaller. They are cute, but too big for your face. See in the right picture how they extend out past your face line? The good news is that they can get them in a number of sizes, just like shoes. Just saying.

I like B or C. (But mostly B)

Hmm... cute style choice, but I think these ones are mostly too wide for your face. Of the three, I'd go with C, but maybe keep looking a bit first to be sure?
I've had glasses for freakin' ever, and it's always tough to pick a pair that will complement your many moods and facets, but I think you're on the right track.

I am voting for C. Very cute glasses.

Although they all look very cute, I 'd go with B. However, from the photos it seems that C would be more comfortable - try to wear the glasses for a while, and if you see marks on the side of your nose when you take them off they 're too heavy and might give you headaches. Have fun - glasses are a fun accessory!

I like B the best, but I agree that these are all a little too wide for your face. I also think the black might be too dark (that said, I have red glasses and am very partial to them . . .) Anyway, I will go click "none!" :)

Anonymous said...

C, but you don't really need glasses. You just really want glasses! I know your tricks. My niece plays a similar trick just so she can wear Band-Aids!

Sondra said...

Someone said C was too big for your face but I think its really the best size for your face. They remind me a little bit of Elvis Costello's signature glasses... in a very good way.

Hope you find something you like!

I am an awful glasses wearer - my advice is to clean them almost every day (I don't but I'm always amazed at the difference when I'm wearing clean glasses) and, if your eyes have different prescriptions, spring for ultra thin lenses. My eyes aren't too bad, but they differed enough that I felt the different weights and my glasses tended to hang askew, until I could pay for them myself and opted for the extra thin option. That made a world of difference!

i like C the best but I think yo should keep looking. you've got such a cute face and i think there are cuter glasses out there...

I like A and C, but I picked A because I liked the color of A better.

Anonymous said...

No matter which pair you choose, make sure to get anti-glare coating so we can SEE your eyes!

brunhilda said...

I'm all for B.
A and C are quite bold (probably because they're darker) and make me look first at your glasses and then at your face. Whereas with B, I look at you face and then notice the awesome glasses. But really you're on the right track, I like them all :)

Kate said...

b or c but you look happier in c. do you think that is meaningful.

Kate said...

i meant to stick a question mark at the end there, not a period. sorry. I'm eating and typing.

Definitely B -- it brings out the lights in your lovely brown eyes

I love C!

Are you still checking out my Uncle's Shop?

Having lived with glasses for almost 40 years now, I can make the following recommendations:
1. Yes, get the anti-glare coating. Definitely worth it.
2. Get the most versatile pair--in this case, C. Having to wear the same pair with everything for at least two years is so hard! Colors are pretty...but difficult to wear with everything.
3. You'll also like the most minimal frames. Wearing glasses is like having your eyes in jail--you want to minimize the "bars" so you don't feel like you're so isolated. Minimal frames are also lightest...which you'll appreciate when you try to look down and read. Heavy glasses fall off! They're also always slipping down your nose when it gets greasy. Eww.
4. I also think those big wide side bars will be dated very quickly (they also add to the weight). Trendy shapes go out of style very quickly...and those have been around for a couple of years already. Again, C is the best choice.
5. You're so cute in glasses! You look great in all of them, so choose the least annoying pair because you'll be stuck with them for two years.

C, baby. It's for cookie.

From your pictures I think C makes you feel more sexy. In the bottom left frame you almost have a pout.

The choice becomes a bit more difficult when you see the beauty of the frames up close. If I was to see you that close up all the time I would probably go for B. And if I had buckets of money I would just buy the them all, damn it.

Anonymous said...

I like C the best, but also echo the "too wide" comment. I think you should keep looking.

Try on pairs that you think are totally outrageous and you think won't work. Also, plastic just doesn't hold up as well as metal (really, really doesn't - despite all the super-expensive Chanel and Prada plastic frames), just mind the possible metal-sensitivity thing.

Your eyes aren't so bad that this is a dire emergency, take your time and get the best ones. If you have a Costco/Club Prix (I know I probably got the french name wrong), They may sell glasses there. If they do, they get awesome one-off frames at amazing prices. That's how I got my D&G frames here (Newmarket).

Anonymous said...

Not so wide and not so oblong. All the pairs look a bit heavy on your face, too.

I'm with the poster who said that the frames in B are the only ones that don't overpower your face. Even with the thicker sides, they don't look that heavy. C does.

Emily said...

I love C. I was trying to sum up what they make you look like, and I think I finally put my finger on it: you look like a character in a movie, like something cool and witty involving lots of sitting around drinking coffee and wine.

C - super cute.

Anonymous said...

I like C the best!

Anonymous said...

i like b or c but i am terrible bad at making decisions like these. i think it's the libra in me - and speaking of, isn't your bday one of these days?

i have glasses that look a bit like a, and only even more rectangular, and i have NO SIDE VISION when wearing them because of the wide side bar things. sometimes a good thing, more often a bad.

Lynne said...

I picks C, but like A, too. I think the darker lenses contrast more with your hair, while B just blends in. :)

Have fun! Now you've made me want new glasses.

Jillian said...

I like C because of the narrower arms. I've been wearing a pair of black frames that have very wide arms (like A) and it really gets annoying when I have to turn my head to look sideways since just glancing sideways with my eyes results in only seeing the black arms!

Crystal said...

Wow! They are all great. I voted for C. I think they are a little less masculine than choices a and b, and also a and b will give you weird tan lines in the summer ;)

I didn't comment on your last entry because you posted too fast for me! But definitely get the non-reflective, scratch resistant, and UV coating. The UV one is very important if you are not going to get sunglasses. I have these things in my eyes now from UV rays (like little bumps on my sclera) that sunglasses or a better coating would have fixed. Don't skimp!

Also, never ever clean your glasses with anything other than a glasses cloth. I always carry one on me. Every now and then I will wash them with my fingers under some running water with some soap, but I let them air dry.

Yay, glasses!

maitai said...

i like B because A and C are too dark, which will make you look older. (try talking to a feng shui expert about this one! he'll yell at you!) however, i like the SHAPE of C the best. i just think they're too dark. obviously, this is just my opinion!

Anonymous said...

I agree that they're all just a little big for your face, but I like the shapes you're leaning toward. I voted for C, but I almost voted for B because they're a little lighter looking. But I picked C because earpieces like the ones on B always annoy me - the thickness gets in the way of my peripheral vision and makes me feel like I have blinders.

Jodi said...

I like C a lot, but I love the color of B. They're all cute! My glasses are a lot like A & C. People seem to be harping on how big and dark A & C are -- that's kind of the point. They say, "I wear glasses, and I'm proud, damn it." Also, they're cute.

Anonymous said...

Hello,

I like C best - but maybe in a lighter colour? Also, definitely anti-reflective lenses!
Best regards,
Beate (Frankfurt/Germany)

You're adorable!

I always pick glasses that are slightly funkier than my normal style of dress. I feel the same way about handknit socks. Color and a cool shape are good.

I love that you are taking pics and the glasses place is cool with it. I love the place where I get my eyes checked/buy my glasses. I always spend a long time there, with multiple staff people helping me pick out frames. It's nice if the staff doesn't work on commission. They should be honest about what looks good on you, not just recommend what will make them the most money.

Oh, and I voted for C.

Jenn and Adam said...

I like C, but I would definitely suggest going down a size.

maryse said...

i like the color of B on you. but the shape of C. they're more classic and if you are only going to have one pair, i'd go with those. don't worry about picking out frames with a color for fear that they'll clash with whatever else you wear. you want frames that complement you. i wear garnet metallic frames and i wear them with everything.

JillyB said...

I vote B--the colour and shape look great on you and this frame seems at home on your face. They might be a tad wide, but it is hard to tell. I second Maryse in saying that you shouldn't worry about the colour "matching" what you wear--I once chose a pair of dark dusty pink glasses because the colour looked great with my complexion and hair--and I was able to wear those glasses with everything. C has a nice shape, but they are too wide for your face--your eyes should be more in the middle of the lens.

rachel m. said...

i thought a at first, but on second look, i think C is the right choice!!

also, you are so adorable.

I have been wearing glasses since I was about 1 year old and my only advice is that you should spend time figuring out which pair of glasses make you feel hot like fire. After all, they are part of your face and everyone who looks at you will see them first. I love, love, love c.

Mona Schmidt said...

I have been wearing glasses for a quite a while now and it's always a struggle when I want new ones. I usually try on a lot of different frames, metal, plastic whatever, and I do know right away when it is the right one for me. Mostly there's only one frame that I LOVE, the other contenders are more like, "yeah, it would work". Do you feel you LOVE any of these frames? If not try something different, you might be surprised.

And, since you asked: I feel, too, that all three of them are bit too wide for your face - except for maybe C, but they are too dark. You want people to see you, not your glasses!!

Mona Schmidt said...

Or rather: Not JUST your glasses.

Dr. Steph said...

C! and I would pick B second. If you're stuck between two, think of weight and the ear and nose pieces.

Now I want new glasses.

Chris said...

I don't like B, but I DO like A - and I agree that they need to be narrower for your face.

Robin said...

I like b the best of the three you selected, but they are all so similar! I vote for seeing some different styles!

Anonymous said...

I voted for C, because I like the shape the best, but see if you can get them in a different color, like red, or that brown tortoise shell. Glasses are fun! If you can afford it, get 2 pairs so you can match them to your outfits. I also recomment the scratch-resistant lenses, especially if you are going to end up cleaning them with anything other than the little cloth they give you.

Seanna Lea said...

I like A or C best. They have fairly similar shapes, but their shape and color is striking and seems very you. C would obviously look a bit better without quite so much reflection off of the lenses, but that can be dealt with when you buy your pair.

Either of these would be great!

monica said...

I like A the best because the color looks good on you. I didn't like the color of B. C is cute too but they are too big.

Lyssa said...

I'm kind of unfashionable in my glasses choices right now...everyone is wearing chunky plastic frames, but I like mine to be thin wire frames. I've had chunky plastic ones in the past, and I found that I got tired of them pretty quickly. The big black bars on your peripheral vision are annoying to me. I like the prim sexy librarian look, though I'm about due for a pair so I might change my mind.

My wirerims are very light, and with the polycarb lenses, they barely weigh anything. When I first got them I kept touching them to make sure they were still there.

I really like the anti-glare coating for photos, and since you're a blogger you know you will be taking photos of yourself all the time :) It does scratch more easily, and if you have a cat who likes to steal your glasses, you will need to be careful with them.

Elise said...

I like choice c the best, something about them just seem more appealling than the others.

Anonymous said...

I think C fits the best of the three. The glasses have a sense of presence without being too "in your face" (no pun intended). I find the shape of the eyeglasses appealing on your face and the narrower arms keep the whole look "light".

Ivywindow said...

I kinda feel that B is the obvious choice, but C just rock.

Danae Prado C. said...

definitly c and i see my option it winning to...hope you liked, i have some like tose. Kisses

Rae said...

Not having read any other comments (yet), I think both B & C look good on you (get both!) -- they're different looks. The color is what makes me choose B a bit over C, but the shape of C is great. Decisions, decisions!

lauren said...

Hmmm, I think I am commenting way late and perhaps you already have new glasses. But just in case, I am one of the many of people that voted for C! I like A, but they look a little wide for your face. B is a good shape, but I'd stay away from the reds/pinks - I think it looks odd with your skin tone/hair color. But C? Great choice - I'd be happy with C if I were you.

I've been wearing glasses since I was 4 myself (yikes) and I'll add in the vote for light. Also, ask opinions of strangers in the store - don't be shy. All of my other glasses advice is insurance-related, but since you are in Canada it doesn't apply...

Anonymous said...

I'm torn between B and C, voted for B and I'm glad since it's the underdog of the two. I like the side view of C best and the full frontal view of B best, fyi. And don't get that anti reflective crap, it scratches fast and get's all rainbow-y looking (like the top of an oil slick). ugh. And although it looks like you found some frames at your optho that you like, keep an eye out while thrifting and even start browsing frame shops. When I stopped buying frames at my eye doctor's and started buying at eye places I found way better frames (better equaling cooler and more flattering, natch). And starting a collecion of vintage (pre-owned? used? cheap?) frames can also save you loads of $ down the road.

Anonymous said...

I like the shape of C and color of B, too. The tortoise shell goes best with your coloring, but those wide side pieces will block your peripheral vision. If the arms are slightly above your side line of vision they will they will be less annoying. First, you need to be sure the rims don't obstruct your peripheral vision much or are too noticeable. A medium intensity color is best for not overpowering your face.

i'm just catching up on your blog and i LOVE letter C! those are fantastic. i might just have to bookmark this and go hunting for them myself. :) good luck on the hunt - i hate glasses shopping but it is so worth it when you put in the effort and end up with specs that you adore.
